What you get with DownShorts
A small tool that does one job and stays out of your way.
Shorts as MP4
The video comes with its sound in a single MP4 file that plays on any phone or computer.
Audio only
Need just the sound? Save the audio track as a separate file for listening offline.
Every link style
Links like youtube.com/shorts/…, youtu.be/… and regular watch links all work.
Preview first
You see the video, its title and the channel before you download, so you know it's the right one.
Any device
iPhone, Android, Windows, Mac, Linux — if it has a modern browser, it works.
No account, no storage
You don't sign in to YouTube, and files pass straight through to your device instead of being kept on our side.
A YouTube Shorts downloader without the clutter
DownShorts turns a public YouTube Shorts link into a file you can keep. Paste the link, check the preview and download the video as MP4. There's no daily limit and no pop-ups.
People use it to watch clips offline, back up their own Shorts, or reuse their own footage in another app.
What you can save
- Shorts as MP4 with sound
- The audio track as a separate file
- Public videos from youtube.com and youtu.be links
- A preview with title and channel before you download
Only public videos can be downloaded. Private, age-restricted and members-only videos are not available. The picture quality is the best single-file MP4 that YouTube offers, which is usually 360p or 720p.
Saving YouTube Shorts on your phone or computer
Where the file ends up depends on your device.
iPhone & iPad
Open DownShorts in Safari and tap the download button. The file lands in the Files app, under Downloads. To get it into Photos, open it, tap Share, then Save Video.
Android
Chrome and most other browsers save the video to your Downloads folder. A moment later it usually shows up in the gallery too.
Windows, Mac & Linux
Click the download button and the file goes to your browser's Downloads folder. If a video opens in a new tab instead, right-click it and choose Save video as.
If something doesn't work
These are the usual suspects.
It says the video wasn't found
The video is probably private, was removed, or is age-restricted. Make sure the link opens in a browser where you're not logged in.
It asks me to try again
YouTube sometimes refuses automated requests. Wait a minute and try once more — most of the time that does it.
The quality is lower than in the app
We offer the best version that comes as one file with sound. Higher resolutions are delivered by YouTube as separate video and audio streams.
Questions people ask
Is DownShorts free?
Yes. There's no limit on downloads, and you don't need an account or an app.
How do I download a YouTube Short?
Copy the Short's link in YouTube, paste it into the box at the top of this page and press Download.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes, in any modern browser. On iPhone, use Safari — the file is saved in the Files app and you can move it to Photos from the share menu.
Can I save just the audio?
Yes. There's a separate button that saves the audio track on its own, usually as an M4A file.
Does it work with normal YouTube videos?
It's made for Shorts, but regular public watch links often work too.
Why does it say the video is blocked or not found?
Private, removed, age-restricted and login-only videos can't be downloaded. Sometimes YouTube also rejects a request for a moment — wait a minute and try again.
Do you keep my links or videos?
No. Files stream through to your device and aren't stored on our side. The privacy page has the details.
Is it legal to download YouTube Shorts?
Saving a video for your own offline viewing is generally fine where you live, but the video still belongs to its creator and YouTube's terms may restrict downloading. Don't re-upload or sell content you don't own.
